5 Reasons Why Having Ginger Hair is the Best

Surprisingly, having ginger hair is not always considered a positive attribute to have - as children and even early adults, we can be teased for anything that makes us a little different and stand out from the crowd. Whether that be our height, our weight, wearing glasses, our skin colour or the colour of our hair! However, here at Authentic Ginger we embrace what makes us unique in a world where everyone is trying to fit in. We are here to tell you that ginger hair is the best, and we have the proof! In this article I will run through five of the top reasons why redheads rule.

  1. Ginger Hair Doesn’t Go Grey

Yes, that’s right! Red hair takes way longer to age because it is able to retain its natural pigment with age. As you start to grow older you will simply be blessed with a range of stunning tones such as silvery copper and rosy, strawberry blonde.

So feel proud knowing you will stay looking youthful and healthy for longer than most folks!

  1. Men are Less Likely to Develop Prostate Cancer

Men with red hair are significantly less likely to get prostate cancer. In fact, this figure could be around 54% less likely than those with blonde, black or brunette hair according to recent scientific studies carried out in Finland.

The reasons for this occurrence are not completely known to us yet, but it is said to be relating to our pigmentation related genes. What is clear though is that this is an incredible benefit to being a redhead!

  1. Ginger Hair is a Rare Occurrence

If you have ginger hair, you are basically a miracle of science! This is because both of your parents will have had to have carried a rare gene called MC1R which is only found in around 2% of the world’s population. Pretty cool, right?

Countries with the most redheads include Scotland, with around 6% of their population having red hair, and Ireland, with around 10%.

  1. Ginger Celebrity Icons

There are so many beautiful, inspiring celebrities and world figures who have ginger hair! For example Emma Stone, Rupert Grint, Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Tilda Swinton, and even British royal himself Prince Harry!

Many celebrities who are not true redheads have also tried their best to imitate scarlet-locks, including the likes of songwriter and business owner Rihanna, and American singer-songwriter Lana Del Ray.

  1. Red Hair Elevates Every Outfit

Red hair can take even the most casual outfits to a whole new level simply because of its vibrancy and eye-catching appearance. You could be wearing dark clothing from head to toe and your ginger hair will give the entire look a pop of colour and an edgy vibe.

We have found that red hair looks particularly gorgeous matched with colors such as cobalt blue, emerald green and deep purple.
